Fall is here and along with it comes the college football season. For the past few years I’ve been fortunate enough to freelance for a great group of people who run a web site completely devoted to Division III sports. D3 Football is just one of several web sites being maintained by D3 Sports.

This past Saturday I drove to Gettysburg College for the Gettysburg Bullets game against the Muhlenberg Mules. After getting the typical shots of running backs, quarterbacks, and receivers, I decided to try and showcase some of the battles being won and lost down in the trenches between the offensive and defensive linemen, the unsung heroes. It was raining that day but unfortunately Gettysburg has an artificial turf field as do most schools these days. I say “unfortunately” because a bit of mud and grass would have really made these pictures classic.

Just read that Bishop McDevitt graduate and current University of Pittsburgh running back LeSean McCoy is a semi-finalist for the Doak Walker Award. This award is presented to the top college football running back. Now while Pittsburgh is hardly the football powerhouse of yesteryear, LeSean has sure ignited the Panthers program and he’s only a sophomore. We send him our best and will keep our fingers crossed.
